Your puppy
All puppies of the Spanish Water Dog are undoubtedly beautiful. However, before you decide to buy a puppy, you need to think about how such an energetic animal will fit into your life and the life of your family. This very cheerful and active dog will have to be able to release the energy he possesses. As an owner, you will need time to feed him regularly, teach him cleanliness, socialize and train. You also need to think about whether you need a show dog or a family dog. In the case of a show dog, an exterior will play a greater role.
Before choosing a puppy, it is worth and even should visit the kennel and get to know the dogs. This is also the best time to ask about all the aspects of owning a dog of this breed and tell about your expectations related to choosing a dog. In professional kennels, the purchase of a puppy is associated with a certain waiting period, so you should often sign up for a waiting list. It is worth waiting for your dream puppy of high quality.
First days at home
The puppy leaves the kennel at the age of eight weeks. No matter how cozy his future home is, for a puppy a change of environment is a stressful event. Upon arrival, you should give your dog a moment to look around, provide water and food, and time to rest. On the first day, it should not be overtired with too many stimuli. To the extended family, to the neighbors, let’s introduce a new family member on another day.
It is good to designate a place that our four-legged child will have only for himself. Put a lair or your kennel cage there. Experience, however, shows that the puppy sleeps best close to the owner, at the feet, and the dog bed is used sporadically. We also have to come to terms with having to roll up carpet or carpets in order to carry out cleanliness training, which takes time, and its effectiveness depends on the consistency and commitment of new owners. Sometimes it comes to an end when our pet is five months old, and sometimes it lasts until the eighth month of his life.
